Alberta Schools Project Alberta
Gracorp co-developed the Alberta Schools Alternative Procurement Phase II Project, which consisted of the design, construction, financing and long-term maintenance of seven new schools in Calgary and area and three in Edmonton.
As part of a new approach to construction, core school designs for K-4, K-6, and K-9 configurations were used for the project. The design has a permanent core building with all the essential elements of a school, including a gymnasium, library, administration offices, washrooms, classrooms, and special teaching spaces for subjects such as music, art, science, and career and technology studies. Modular classrooms were added to the core building as needed, giving schools greater flexibility to respond to changes in student enrolment. The schools achieved LEED Silver or Gold certification and were built by the Graham Group in a joint venture arrangement. The project was completed under budget and ahead of schedule.
